PTFE And PFA Extruded Tubing

Extruded tubing made from PTFE offers the lowest coefficient of friction of any of our tubing for strain reduction and delivery of laser components. These features make PTFE especially suited for insertion tubes in housings for fiber-coupled laser diodes. PTFE exhibits almost no water absorption, has extremely broad chemical resistance, and can tolerate temperatures up to 500 °F (260 °C).

Similar to PTFE, PFA offers wide temperature stability with a working temperature up to 500 °F (260 °C). PFA’s low coefficient of friction facilitates easy fiber insertion into laser combiners, and PFA tolerates the high heat that may occur within the combiner. PFA is also optically clear for applications that require direct visualization. Available in a high-purity grade, HP PFA is frequently used in the semiconductor industry for its chemical resistance and low level of extractables.

Key Benefits And Capabilities:
  • Low Friction
  • Working Temperature To 500 °F (260 °C)
  • Low Water Absorption

Dual-Shrink™

Dual-Shrink™ is our special bilayer heat shrink featuring inner and outer layers each made from fluoropolymers. As heat is applied, the inner layer of Dual-Shrink™ melts and fully surrounds the component. Simultaneously, the outer layer shrinks securely encapsulating the cable. Dual-Shrink™ imparts strength and mechanical reinforcement while locking out moisture and other environmental threats with a low refractive index polymer.

Low temperature Dual-Shrink™ (LTDS) features an FEP outer layer and EFEP inner layer with a recovery temperature of 419 °F (215 °C). LTDS is highly chemically resistant and easily tolerates working temperatures up to 302 °F (150 °C). LTDS can also be sterilized for medical applications and other clean room environments.

Dual-Shrink™ is also available in our conventional PTFE/FEP form with a recovery temperature of 654° F (346°C).

Key Benefits:
  • Moisture-Proof Encapsulation
  • Lower Recovery Temperature
  • Chemical Resistance
