Monofilament

Zeus monofilaments are single, solid extrusions with no central working channel. Monofilaments are used in many diverse applications, ranging from braid reinforcement in advanced catheter designs to cable filler in wire harness assemblies. With decades of experience in polymer extrusion, we manufacture precision monofilaments in a broad range of high-performance resins, including FEP, PEEK, PEEK Glide™, PFA, PTFE, and LCP (liquid crystal polymer).

LCP Monofilament – MRI-Compatible Catheter Reinforcement
While magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become the industry standard for soft tissue visualization, many catheter-based procedures still utilize X-ray guidance due to metal catheter components that are incompatible with MRI. These X-ray procedures thus expose patients and clinicians to ionizing radiation.

With this challenge in mind, Zeus developed an LCP monofilament fiber engineered specifically for catheter construction. Because this fiber contains no metal, it is fully MRI-compatible, eliminating the need for radio-opaque contrast materials or costly platinum marker bands typically used in X-ray-guided systems.

Drawn Fiber

Drawn fiber is an improved-performance monofilament that has been stretched, pulled, or drawn down during the manufacturing process. Drawing, or pulling the monofilament post-extrusion, further orients the polymer chains, resulting in increased polymer chain density and strength. As a result, drawn fibers exhibit enhanced and often preferable mechanical properties when compared to simple monofilaments.

These fibers are used where performance is critical—from bioabsorbable fibers woven into vascular stents to braided sleeving that protects wiring and cable assemblies. The small diameters achievable through our drawing process also make these fibers ideal for fine-mesh filtration applications, including mist eliminators, scrubbers, liquid-phase separation filters, and droplet control systems.

Zeus manufactures drawn fiber in numerous resins, including ECTFE, ETFE, FEP, Nylons, PEEK, PFA, and PVDF.

• Drawn fiber sizes: Standard ODs from 0.001″ – 0.040″ (0.025 mm – 1.016 mm), with other sizes available on request
• Custom profiles: Including rectangular profiles made to customer specifications
• Engineered surfaces: For improved lubricity or specialized shapes
