For catheter reinforcement, LCP (liquid crystal polymers) monofilament rivals stainless steel on many fronts including exceptional torque response, pushability, and distal end deflectability.

Since its invention in the 1970s, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become an industry standard for medical diagnosis and treatment. However, procedures requiring catheterization would still rely on x-ray as means to guide the catheter due to the MRI incompatibility of metal catheter components. To meet this challenge, we’ve developed an LCP monofilament fiber, ideally suited for catheter braiding. This LCP fiber contains no metal and thus is MRI-compatible; it also eliminates the need for radio-opaque contrast material or expensive platinum marker bands typically used in x-ray procedures.
