By improving jacket-to-liner bond strength, Tie Layer helps to improve consistency in catheter performance, reduce manufacturing costs, and increase product yield.
Primarily designed for use during catheter construction, this ultra-thin thermoplastic layer is typically applied over a PTFE catheter liner before braid or coil reinforcement is added. During the jacket reflow process, this thin coating forms a strong, heat-welded bond with the overlying jacketing material. By creating a stronger bond between the outer catheter jacket and inner liner (20-40% improved bond strength1), Zeus’ Tie Layer solution helps improve consistency in catheter performance, reduce manufacturing costs, and increase product yield.
Tie Layers are made from USP Class VI materials and may also be a good option for use with Zeus polyimide tubing. Tie Layer is available with standard liner ID ranges from 0.015″ – 0.350″ (0.381 mm – 8.890 mm). Coating thicknesses 0.0001″ – 0.0003″ ref. (0.0025 mm – 0.0076 mm ref.). Liners with a Tie Layer have a maximum cut length of 78″ (1981.2 mm).
