Letterkenny Ireland

Letterkenny is County Donegal’s largest town with a population of more than 19,000.  It is the centre of business and commercial activity in Northwest Ireland. This vibrant town located at the base of Lough Swilly boasts an array of sporting, cultural and civic amenities. 

Letterkenny is a mere hour’s drive from the nearest airport.  It is a two and half hour drive from Belfast and just three and half hours from Dublin.

The shopping capital of Northwest Ireland, Letterkenny has a great balance of family owned stores and better known High Street retailers.  It has something to suit all palettes with upwards of 20 restaurants, many featuring freshly caught seafood and the best Irish Beef.

The Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT) is a growing, progressive third level educational establishment with a matriculation of 3,000 students.  LYIT provides a source for high academic achievement and practical, market-oriented courses. 

Letterkenny boasts a fine combination of well-established and emerging theatre groups for all ages. The An Grianán Theatre plays host to a variety of artists, plays and musicians from Ireland and beyond.  Aside from the theatre, the Regional Cultural Centre is a multidisciplinary arts facility. 

If you’re looking for a healthy lifestyle or a sporting hobby, Letterkenny has something for you.  The Aura Leisure Centre and accompanying athletics track is a superb venue for swimming, running and basketball. There are several gyms, fitness centres and sporting clubs throughout the town. Golf enthusiasts can enjoy the 18-hole course at Barnhill and other courses within an hour’s drive.
