Background PTFE Monofilament is often used as a manufacturing aid due to its lubricity and smooth surface finish. For manufacturing process requiring a higher compressive strength than is available in virgin PTFE, Zeus can extrude the mandrels with a compounded glass micro-particle. The glass compound adds to the compressive strength of the PTFE making it the ideal replacement for stainless steel mandrels.

Applications Applications for glass filled PTFE mandrels range from catheter manufacturing to industrial adhesive thermosetting. These products are manufactured in a way that requires a high-temperature plastic with excellent compressive strength and excellent lubricity. The glass filled mandrels are removed after the part has been completed and, depending on the process, can often be reused for added cost savings.
